Wine Tasting @ Uncorked!

Barra Winery

Thursday, February. 29th, 5 - 7pm

All of our estate-grown, certified organic grapes are picked at the peak of flavor. They are delivered to our winemaker, Randy Meyer, who then follows strict CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) guidelines throughout the winemaking process. In order for our Barra and Girasole wines to be labeled “Made With Organic Grapes”, both the vineyards and the winery that processes the fruit must be certified by a third party on an annual basis.

Additionally, when wine is crafted using the “organically grown grapes” designation on the label, the regulations require that the wines must not exceed 100 ppm (parts per million) of sulfites, measured prior to bottling (Note: for comparison purposes, the FDA allows up to 350 ppm in conventional wines). Sulfites are an approved preservative that keeps the wine from oxidizing, which can cause the wine to change flavors or color. After bottling, our wines typically test out at a total sulfite level of between 45-65 ppm.

Randy also adheres to vegan-friendly guidelines when making all Girasole Vineyards wines. This means that no animal products, such as egg-whites or isinglass are used in the winemaking process. Special organically-approved yeasts are used to promote the fermentation of the grapes into wine. Many Barra wines also meet the vegan-friendly guidelines. Just look for the VF symbol next to each wine in our store and click here to learn what makes a wine vegan-friendly.

Come to Uncorked! between 5 - 7pm on Thursday, Feb. 22nd for the tasting.  $10/person.

A Focus on Reds

Friday, January 29, 4:30 - 5pm

Join us our next virtual wine tasting event featuring two stellar red wines. Both are new to the Uncorked menu, and are in this month's Guilt-free Red Wine Club. The tasting will start off with an overview of the wines, including wine making notes, growing conditions, and varietal expectations. We will then taste the wines together and share our thoughts. Here are the wines:

Sullivan Vineyards 2015 Petite Verdot, Rutherford: $76.99

Silver Ridge 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Coast: $11.99

2-Bottle Tasting Pack: $80.10 (10% Discount)

This is a dynamic wine duo! The Sullivan Vineyards Petite Verdot is a big, bold, highly structured wine, with plum and cherry flavors and a bit of chocolate. It also has some unique mineral notes which is more reminiscent of the Petite Verdot flavors of Bordeaux, where it is often a small percentage of a Bordeaux blend. On the Sullivan Vineyard website, this wine sells for $130, making Uncorked's pricing of $76.99 is a winner!

The Silver Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious value-priced, easy drinking Cab. Layered notes of black cherry, chocolate, cedar, and vanilla merge with soft tannins on the finish. And, for $11.99 it's a big, yummy wine!
